Creating the culture we want to work in
Workplace culture is often described as “the way we do things around here.” It is shaped by the behaviours we encourage, the things we challenge, and the things we allow to become normal.
In healthcare, this matters because our teams are working under enormous pressure, across professional boundaries, with complex communication and significant responsibility. A positive culture can support better teamwork, psychological safety, staff wellbeing and safer care.

Our approach helps teams think about:
-
What their core purpose is, and what kind of culture helps them achieve it
-
What makes a team feel supportive, effective and safe to work in
-
How everyday behaviours shape culture over time
-
How to recognise and reinforce the good
-
How to respond constructively when behaviours undermine the team
-
The influence of hierarchy, pressure, burnout and psychological safety
-
How civility, compassionate leadership and active bystander approaches can support culture change
Rather than focusing only on what is going wrong, we help teams identify what they want more of and how to build it deliberately through everyday behaviours and conversations.
How does this link to Civility Saves Lives?
Civility Saves Lives explores how our behaviour affects the people around us, teamwork and patient care.
Workplace culture takes that message a step further.
It looks at how those individual interactions become repeated patterns within teams — shaping what feels normal, what gets challenged, what gets ignored and how safe people feel to speak up.
By combining civility, psychological safety, compassionate leadership, learning from excellence and practical approaches to difficult conversations, we help teams create a more positive and intentional workplace culture.
